Hein earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Kansas State University in 2009. In addition to his background in youth education, he has extensive experience in the shooting, hunting, and outdoors industries.

After college, Hein worked as a marketing director for several firearms companies and a manufacturer of off-road products. Most recently, he owned and operated his own marketing company, Fousek Creative. In this role, Hein provided writing, photography, and social media management for print and digital publications in the outdoors industry.

As a youth, Hein was a member of Rooks County 4-H in Kansas. He discovered a passion for shooting sports and served as an officer in his club.

Hein’s time in 4-H also helped inspire his dedication to volunteerism and community involvement. During college, he worked summers as an instructor for his state’s 4-H camp, teaching shooting sports and environmental education.

“I’m most excited about stepping into the role of 4-H educator because it gives me the opportunity to help cultivate and inspire the next generation to chase their dreams like I did,” says Hein. “It’s a return to my roots as an educator and the organization that helped shape me in my own youth.”

Hein started his new role with UW Extension on Wednesday, Jan. 28. He can be reached at zhein@uwyo.edu.
