The Bright Future Award celebrates the efforts of UW Extension administrative professionals who have been a part of UW Extension for five years or less. This year’s recipient is AnnMarie “Annie” Drake of the state extension office in Laramie.

Drake joined UW Extension in March 2025, quickly becoming a vital part of the state office team. As one of the first points of contact for UW Extension, Drake serves administrators, county office personnel, state office staff, and members of the public.

Drake is approachable and responsive, answering questions promptly. She often goes out of her way to support colleagues both personally and professionally, from helping coordinate travel arrangements and multi-day conferences to inventing new team-building traditions.

“Annie approaches all requests with a balance of compassion and professionalism,” says one nominator. “She is both knowledgeable and able to think on her feet, adapting quickly to de-escalate situations and support both colleagues and extension clientele.”

Nominators also note that Drake’s can-do attitude and broad skill set have brightened the state office and contributed to a positive, productive work environment.

Fremont County professional named Administrative Professional of the Year

For her dedication and compassionate attitude, Fremont County’s Kassandra “Kassie” Weber earned UW Extension’s highest honor for administrative staff, Administrative Professional of the Year.

Weber has been an invaluable member of the Fremont County team since she joined UW Extension in 2020. In 2023, she was the recipient of the Bright Future Award, and she has continued to excel within her position.

Nominators note that Weber is patient, knowledgeable and easy to approach, serving as an excellent first point of contact for members of the public.

“She has a natural ability to make people feel welcome and comfortable, and that is a tremendous quality in an administrative professional,” says Chance Marshall, Fremont County extension educator.

Weber routinely goes above and beyond traditional administrative responsibilities. She regularly helps coordinate 4-H volunteers, plan and implement 4-H events, and manage 4-H enrollment.

She also steps up to help with other local events and programs, including Fremont County Farm and Ranch Days, the Master Gardener trainee program, and Fremont County Predatory Animal Board meetings.
