Northwest College and the University of Wyoming Extension are working together to bring an EMT class to Big Horn County that meets the schedules of farmers, ranchers, and working individuals. Students who complete and pass the course will be eligible to take the National Registry EMT exam to earn their EMT certificate.
The non-credit class begins Nov. 14, 2023, and will run through Feb. 17, 2024. Instruction will be delivered via Zoom on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. For those who wish to attend in person, the class will meet at the Ten Sleep School.
Six Saturday classes for hands-on skills will be held at the Greybull Rec Center on Dec. 9, 2023; Jan. 13, 20, and 27, 2024; and Feb. 3 and 10. A skills test will take place Feb. 17. There will be no classes on Thanksgiving Day or Dec. 22, 2023, through Jan. 8, 2024.
Tuition, which includes the book, required fingerprinting, and drug testing, is $1,000. If you have questions, contact UW Extension educator Melissa Cook at (307) 568-4160 or mcook12@uwyo.edu. To register, visit https://nwc.edu/learning/workforce/training, scroll down to “Other Locations,” and select the EMT class.
EMTs are in short supply nationwide. Volunteer services in small communities need additional EMTs. Please consider taking the class and volunteering to help keep your local service available.
